2004 Events

A look back at the previous year's events that I attended.

Wollerton Park Steam Fair in Nottingham was the first event the organ attended in 2004. This was held over May Bank Holiday.

Spring Bank Holiday was spent at Barnard Castle Steam Fair - A very popular rally with plenty of engines.

June saw me back up north at Weardale Show. This was held to raise funds for the Weardale Railway.
Unfortunately this show is unlikely to go ahead in 2005 as the railway has hit financial problems & is currently closed.

July started with one of the wettest weekends at Duncombe Park,
Helmsley in North Yorkshire.
Despite the heavy showers there is always a good selection of steam engines, fair organs, tractors, displays and trade stands.
Evening entertainment is also provided.

The organ also had an outing to the seaside, attending Withernsea Seaside Steam in July. This attracted a couple of organs, fire engines, a miniature engine, two steam engines & a roller.

Despite a bomb scare on the beach, it was a fine & dry weekend.

The end of July saw the organ back up north at Stanhope Steam Fair.

This was a new event for 2004.
The event was run by John Toulson.

As always there were plenty of organs and engines to see as well as trade stands.

The largest event of the year was
The Pickering Steam Fair.

This was held in August and is one of the largest steam fairs in the North of England.

August Bank Holiday Weekend

The organ headed south to Trent 2004

This event is a relatively new rally but is growing year on year.

On display were:-
miniature engines, rollers, steam engines, fire engines, stationery engines & organs.

There were gymnastic displays, birds of prey flying &  motorcycle stunt riders

Sunday night saw the evening rounded off with a spectacular riverside
Fireworks display.

September started with a weekend in Boston in Lincolnshire

The Miniature steam & town show was held in the central park and is a mixture of steam fair, fun fair and craft show.

Fair Organ Preservation Society
North West Group

Held the Widnes Organ Weekend in September in Cheshire.

The event attracted organs large and small from all over the North of England.

On display were birds of prey, miniature engines, stationery engines, steam engines, classic cars, and dormobiles.

There were trade stands, fun fair,
craft tent, stage shows and a display of smaller hand turned organs.

This show is one of the largest gatherings of fair organs in the North of England.

Yes we did celebrate
Christmas
in October at
Ashover Finalle in Derbyshire.

A spectacular weekend of illuminated displays of stationery engines, organs, birds of prey, steam engines.

Friday evening saw everyone celebrating Christmas Eve

Saturday evening everyone celebrated New Years Eve
with a Grand Firework Display

There were plenty of trade stands for early Christmas presents.

The final event of 2004 was a
Christmas Crank Up
at Riccall near Selby in Yorkshire.

This was a very well attended rally with lots of stationery engines, classic cars etc.

Proceeds went to charity.

I hope you have enjoyed looking back through some of the events of 2004.

The organ will be out and about in the current year
